Day #3

Today was Brooklyn day. We planned to spend the entire day checking out ny's outer bourough. A quick 10 min subway ride and we arrived right smack in the middle of Williamsburg.
Scott had read about a breakfast place called Egg that served organic and local produce. We went there and it was divine! I had the prefix special, which was:
-Gooseberry and baby fennel tart
-Slow roasted goat shoulder in a fingerling potato hash w braised radishes, spinach puree, summer squash, and a poached egg
-Beets and berries w fresh goat cheese and honey comb
He had the brioche with cheddar, poached egg, kale, and oven roasted tomatoes:

After our fabulous breakfast, we walked down the street to Artists and Fleas, which was a retail space where local artists and vendors sold their wares. We saw some great vintage items as well as all kinds of local artsy products. A dj was also spinning records while we shopped, so the whole experience was really fun!

Next we went to Smorgasburg, which was a huge open space outside with 250 food vendors. All local vendors with amazing artisanal foods... no crappy fried fair type food like we would have at home. Of course we were too full from breakfast to eat any of it, but we did manage to stuff down an ice cream sandwich. Chocolate chip oatmeal cookie with sea salt, vanilla bean ice cream with a hot fuge drizzle. Ah-mazing.

Next we went to the Brooklyn Brewery, home of Scotts favorite beer maker, and had a beer.

Then we went to the Brooklyn Flea, which is an outdoor flea market. It was fun to shop around and look through all the old vintage items. Finally after several hours we were hungry again, and went back to Smorgasburg. We tried several items from various vendors:

-Vegan beet slider
                                          -Jerk chicken

-Curry chicken bun

-Dark chocolate milkshake

Surprisingly, the vegan beet slider was by far our favorite! Our sister and brother in law (newly converted vegetarians) would love it, so we will definitely bring them here when they get here on July 3rd!

After all that, we were beat, so came back to the apartment to regroup. View from our window:

After a quick shower, we jumped on the subway and headed uptown to the upper west side. It really is so much cleaner and quieter up here than in the west village where we are staying. It has a very residential feel, with many tree lined streets, and beautiful brownstone apartments. Picture the movie "You've Got Mail"... That's the upper west side. We went to one of our favorite wine bars, The Tangled Vine for a glass of vino.
After that, we walked around the UWS for a while, then hopped back on the subway back downtown to the Village. We stopped inside a little place called the Fedora Bar, had one cocktail, and then called it a night.
Looking forward to another action packed day tomorrow!
Good night!
