Today was a day of errands. We walked around town, and bought some household items that we needed. Nothing makes you feel like you actually live in the place you're vacationing like buying a 4 pack of toilet paper :-)
We had lunch at this great little Thai place called Galanga. One of the NYC books we have listed that this place had a lunch special, so we went to check it out. You could get an entree and a soup or salad for $7.50, which is great for New York prices. We both got the same thing, a noodle bowl with vegetables, except Scott added chicken to his and I added beef.
I also had this drink, which was sake, iced tea, mint, and lime.. how beautiful is this?!
After lunch (which was spicy, noodley, chewy goodness, by the way), we decided to do a little bit more shopping. We already had a big shopping day on Tuesday, but Scott decided that he wanted to look for a few more things, so we went back to Loehman's and Century 21. We spent several hours shopping, and ended up buying a few more things.
We had a big night planned out for that evening. A friend of a friend of ours works at this restaurant a couple blocks from our apartment. It's called The Waverly Inn, and it is a very exclusive place. They don't accept reservations, the only way you can eat there is to know someone who can put you on the list. Luckily, we had ran into this friend of a friend the weekend before we left for NYC, so they arranged the details to put us in contact with the guy who worked at the Waverly Inn. He told us that Wednesday and Thursday nights are the best time to come, as there are usually celebrities who dine here. So of course we wanted to make sure to be there during that time in hopes to see a celeb!
Sadly, we did not see any celebrities... well, none that we recognized anyway. There was huge, tall man that was seated close by who definitely looked like he could be a pro basketball player. But being the non-sportsy people that we are, we had no clue who he could be. At all of the tables around us, these did not look like your average, everyday people- these were all beautiful, fabulous looking people- any one of them could have been a B or C list celebrity that we just didn't recognize. This place had an understated elegance about it, it was definitely swanky, but in an unassuming way. The food and the service were both outstanding.
The menu listed "no photography allowed in the restaurant" (that just shows how many celebrities must dine here reguarly!) so I couldn't take pictures of our food. For starters, we shared the truffle macaroni and cheese, which had quarter sized truffles shaved ALL over it- I can never eat macaroni and cheese again any other way- this was THE BEST EVER! Seriously, if I had to choose my last meal on earth, this would be it. Unbelievably good. Scott had the burger, and I had the chicken pot pie. Both dishes were outstanding.. this was comfort food elevated to a new level. Even though we did not see any celebs, we were not disappointed. We had a wonderful meal, walked the 2 blocks home, and went to bed.

I bet people were looking at you all and asking, "Who do you think that is? Was she in that one movie we saw?" Or maybe they thought, "Is that LeAnn Rimes?" lol :)
ReplyDeleteHaha...I love it Megan! They definitely were trying to figure out if you were really LeAnn Rimes!!!
